How Do Auto Responders Work ?

by admin on January 8, 2010

As you develop your email marketing campaign, remember to be concise, offer valuable information, stay professional but friendly, and never spam! Auto responders are a great way of automating your email marketing campaign, but they don’t replace the human touch. Be sure that the content you are sending is of high quality. It is very easy to create a lot of junk emails and let an auto responder send them out for you on a daily basis; but that is also an easy to lose a lot of customers and prospects this way.

Auto Responder Sign Up ExampleThe auto responder software allows you to put a small amount of html code or java script on your website. When a visitor arrives on the page they are able to enter an email address in the box (like the image to the right). Upon clicking “Submit” or “Sign Up” they usually get a confirmation email – notifying them of the subscription.  If you are set up for double opt-in, they may have to click a link in the email to confirm that they know they have subscribed to an email list.

Auto responders like Constant Contact and aWeber help you send automatic replies to subscriptions and are a very effective way of pre-scheduling your email campaigns so that you don’t have to worry about that minor but crucial task. You can simply create your emails when your time allows and then set the auto responder to send them out at set times. You can have one go out in response to a request for information and you can also schedule the delivery of a series of emails to be delivered at the same time every week.

However you choose to use your auto responder, remember to respect the wishes of your recipients. Keep your email marketing CAN-SPAM compliant and always include an opt-out option in case someone chooses to unsubscribe. Do not bombard someone’s email in box with constant emails from you, especially if they are trivial or inconsequential. Keep your emails engaging and informative and your readers will enjoy opening your email; and that is the sign of successful email marketing.
